Frequently Asked Questions

Why do i need gutters?

Gutters are an essential part of the home, they divert water away from your home which protects your house foundation, siding, roof, landscaped areas, and decking from erosion and water damage.

How does one determine how to install the gutters?

Two elements go into a successful install. One is slope and the other is support (gutter hangers). The slopes help aid the water process sending water to the downspout, generally, you need one-half-inch of slope for every 10 feet of gutter. As for the support (gutter hangers) its determined by gutter type and where you live. Regions with snow and ice hangers need to be spaced 18 inches apart as opposed to little snow/ice regions hangers can be placed as far as 36 inches apart.

How many downspouts will i need?

Typically, we install the downspouts about every 20 to 30 feet of gutter. It could be more depending on your roof lines and slopes. You want to obtain optimal flow for heavy rains at the end of each gutter run. Minimum is approx 20 feet.

What is the best gutter material?

For most homeowners, it’s aluminum which comes in many color options, is the least expensive, doesn’t rust and will last for decades. These seamless gutters are made right on-site. Other more expensive options are copper and galvanized steel, holds up in almost any weather condition and has fewer color choices to choose from.

How many times a year do i have to clean my gutters?

Typically without any gutter guards roughly twice a year, late fall and spring. Cleaning them reduces weight which prevents sagging or pulling away from the home. Clogs, on the other hand, can be damaging not only to your roof but water leakage in your basement.  We all know the facts on water damage. Prevention is best at all costs.

How long do gutters last?

Like with many things proper care and maintenance approximately 20 years. Copper gutters are known for their longevity and can last up to 50 years.
